The One Minute ManagerWhether you manage a large company or just your own family, this book is for you. As a mother, I especially liked the ideas of being clear in my expectations not criticizing my kids when they are first learning to do something - positive praise can bring about great results. Save critiques for later when they ought to be proficient at something but have slipped up - and then keep it short! Children's Books (books to read with children or books they can read alone)

The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. LewisOne of the first set of books we read aloud with our children, outside of the scriptures. This series is a classic. You can either just enjoy the stories or search for the Christian symbolism threaded throughout the tales. Makes for great discussions. We like to read them in the chronological order of the stories, not in their order of publication, so we start with The Magician's Nephew. Horton Hears a Who, by Dr. SeussAn all time favorite of our family. Who can go wrong with Dr. Seuss? When our kids were small they loved to be read this story. Now that they are older, they still sneak it out now and then to read on their own. Not only do you get a fun story line, but you also get the fabulous message that "a person's a person no matter how small"! The Lord of the RingsFantasy at its best. I first read these books when I was a young teenager, beginning with the prequel The Hobbit. Not only does Tolkien spin a great tale, but he sprinkles it with words of wisdom and great life lessons. Join Frodo and his companions as they try to make the world right again, fighting evils both without and within. For a more in-depth review of this book please visit this post on our Blog Website. This collection of Gary Paulsen’s five books, known as the Tucket series, follows Francis Tucket as he works his way back to his family.
